This song is about when one of the dogs in my family was hit by a car. His name was Banditt, and he was a great guy. A person was killed in the same stretch of road, just outside our house, just a few days after this. RIP Banditt and that man. The song ends up being more about death in general, and how it haunts people.
lyrics
Well, violence reminded in some wonderful time
casually rewinded like the last sounds of a rhyme.
Like genetic cancer haunting a family tree.
Or termites in the roof above you and me.
Like my dog dying on the hwy
like the man why died there yesterday
or his wife seeing it too
like those planes that collided above the ocean outside our house
or the dead they pulled ashore
Like that climber that fell from the cliff
we saw him airlifted into the sky
with his friends down below
with no reason to say goodbye.
Like bloody hotel rooms
or news coverage of Erewon's crash
It all survives
even if its in the past.
But what are we going to do about those termites in the roof
above you and me
yeah, there's termites in the roots of your family tree.
what are we going to do about those termites in the roof
above you and me
yeah there's termites in the roots of your family tree.
